Tetrapods are — literally — "four-legged" forms, and in different parts of the world huge versions of these objects are cast in concrete and piled along coastlines to prevent erosion. It's a beautiful integration of the man-made and the natural: the mass-produced, rigidly precise geometric forms become randomly entangled and continue to shift and settle as the forces of the sea act upon them. Together they create a living form, a breathing landscape. I just HAD to make these in clay. To replicate the concrete-casting process, and to produce geometrically perfect tetrapods, I used 3D digital modeling software.
